Congratulations to Dr. Tom Olsen on completing his PhD

We are delighted to celebrate another important milestone: Tom Olsen has successfully completed his PhD.

We warmly congratulate Tom on this achievement and thank him for his commitment and creativity, and contributions to the group. Completing a PhD marks years of persistence and passion for discovery.

Tom’s research focused on developing a general-relativistic lattice-Boltzmann method (GRLBM) for radiation transport in curved space–times. His work extended the special-relativistic lattice-Boltzmann framework to fully general relativity by modelling photon propagation along null geodesics and performing collisions in the fluid frame. This innovative approach allows grey radiation fields to be evolved consistently. By introducing adaptive velocity stencils, he also improved performance in optically thin regimes while reducing computational cost. His method provides a powerful new tool for modelling radiation in relativistic astrophysical environments.

We thank Tom for his contributions to the group and wish him curiosity, success, and exciting discoveries in the next stage of his scientific career.
