JETSET member Marie Cassing was awarded with the Wissenschaftspreis of the Physikalischer Verein in Frankfurt am Main for her research in her Master’s Thesis “Realistic equilibria of differentially rotating stars” under supervision of Prof. Luciano Rezzolla.
In July 2025 Marie was also mentioned as Physikerin der Woche (Physicist of the week) by the German Physics Society (DPG), featuring women in physics who are based in Germany or German women who are working in the field of physics abroad.
The entire JETSET team is very proud of Marie and joins in warmly congratulating her!

Marie is a PhD student at Goethe University in Frankfurt and member of the ERC project JETSET. She studies binary neutron star mergers with a focus on the effect of neutrino radiative transport on the late post-merger phase. During her Bachelor’s and Master’s studies she has also worked on differential rotation in hypermassive neutron stars and isolated neutron stars, tori around black holes in alternative theories of gravity, and stars composed of dark matter.
She is also interested in art, visualisation, and science communication, trying to inspire students at schools to study physics as a board member of the Physik-für-Alle e.V.
