Congratulations to Dr. Jens Papenfort for completing his PhD!

We would like to celebrate another important milestone: Dr. Jens Papenfort has successfully defended his PhD on 27.01.25.

We congratulate Jens on this achievement and thank him for his dedication and valuable contributions to the group. Completing a PhD represents years of perseverance, and commitment to discovery.

Jens’ research has significantly advanced our understanding of compact-object binaries in the era of multi-messenger astronomy. He investigated the impact of high spins and large mass asymmetries in binary neutron-star mergers, showing how these effects influence remnant lifetimes, ejecta properties, and kilonova signatures.

He also contributed to the development of a new open-source spectral-solver infrastructure called FUKA for constructing constraint-satisfying initial data of binary black holes, neutron stars, and mixed systems. In addition, his studies of eccentric neutron-star mergers revealed enhanced ejecta and robust nucleosynthetic yields, highlighting the astrophysical richness of dynamically captured systems.

We thank Jens for his outstanding contributions and wish him continued success and exciting discoveries in the next stage of his scientific career.
